Compact 1U server for dense workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R650 fits two Xeon Gold 6338 processors and 64 GB of DDR4 into a single rack unit. It targets virtualization, database and private-cloud clusters that need maximum compute density. Ten 2.5-inch drive bays provide room for the included 960 GB SATA SSDs. Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise handles remote management across the fleet.

Redundant power and hot-swap bays

Dual 1400 W platinum supplies share the load and can be swapped without downtime. The front panel holds ten hot-swap SATA trays so drives can be replaced while the system runs. A Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card occupies the mezzanine slot, leaving PCIe Gen4 risers free for additional networking or accelerator cards. Rails and bezel ship in the box for immediate rack mounting.

Memory ceiling and storage protocol limits

The platform supports up to 2 TB of DDR4 across 32 DIMM slots, so the current 64 GB leaves headroom for memory-heavy databases. The PERC H755 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 over SATA and SAS links, but NVMe drives would require a different backplane and controller. PCIe Gen4 lanes are finite, so builders planning multiple high-throughput add-in cards must balance lane allocation against the OCP module.
