The Dell PowerEdge R730 fits two Xeon E5-2637 v4 processors and 512 GB of DDR4 ECC memory into a 2U rack form factor with eight 3.5-inch drive bays. It targets workloads that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a single chassis, such as virtualisation hosts or database nodes. Buyers who need more than 768 GB of RAM or more than two sockets should look elsewhere.

Dual 495 W power supplies deliver redundant 12th-generation power to the CPUs, memory and PERC H730 controller. The rackmount layout directs airflow front-to-back across the processors and memory risers under standard data-centre cooling. No GPU or additional add-in cards are installed, so acoustic output remains typical for a 2U server in a cooled aisle.

Bundled management and expansion

An iDRAC8 Enterprise licence enables full remote console, power control and firmware updates without an operating system. The PERC H730 SAS controller supports RAID across SATA or SAS drives that you add to the eight bays.
