The Dell PowerEdge R730xd fits twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays in a two-processor chassis. Dual Xeon E5-2650L v4 CPUs deliver twenty-eight cores at 1.7 GHz for virtualisation or storage workloads. Two hundred fifty-six gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed, leaving headroom up to 768 GB.

PERC H730 with 10 GbE networking

A PERC H730 SAS controller manages RAID across SATA drives, while an Intel I350/X540 card adds two 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports. Dual 1100 W supplies provide redundancy. iDRAC8 Enterprise enables remote console, power control and firmware updates without an operating system.

Tool-less rails and drive caddies

The server accepts Dell ready-rails for toolless rack mounting, and each 2.5-inch bay uses a hot-plug caddy that clicks in from the front. Memory slots are colour-coded per processor; populate evenly across both CPUs for best bandwidth. Drives are not included, so plan capacity before deployment.
