The GIGABYTE MZ72-HB2 is an Extended ATX motherboard built for dual AMD EPYC 7002 and 7003 series processors in Socket SP3. It targets high-performance computing clusters, virtualisation hosts and data-analytics nodes that need maximum core density and memory capacity in a two-socket design.

PCIe 4.0 Lane Distribution Limits

Five full-length slots provide Gen4 connectivity, but bandwidth depends on which CPU populates them. Three slots run at x16 from CPU_0 and CPU_1, while two operate at x8 from CPU_0. SlimSAS connectors add either Gen4 NVMe or SATA lanes, yet enabling NVMe requires a BIOS change that reassigns those lanes away from SATA.

4TB Eight-Channel DDR4 Ceiling

Sixteen 288-pin slots support registered DDR4-3200 modules across eight channels per socket, reaching 4TB total when fully populated with high-capacity LRDIMMs. Builds using standard RDIMMs or fewer modules will stop well short of this ceiling, so memory planning must match the target capacity from the start.
