The included Smart Carrier caddy lets administrators insert or remove the drive without powering down the chassis. Installation With Smart Carrier

Slide the supplied Smart Carrier into a supported 3.5-inch hot-swap bay until the latch engages; the drive connects through the backplane SATA 6Gbps interface. No cables or separate mounting screws are required because the carrier handles power and data alignment. The main issue arises when the server backplane or controller does not present a standard SATA hot-swap connector, leaving the drive mechanically incompatible.

SATA 6Gbps Throughput Limit

The SATA 6Gbps interface caps sustained transfer rates at the protocol maximum, so sequential reads and writes cannot exceed that ceiling regardless of the 7200RPM spindle speed. Random I/O performance is further constrained by mechanical latency inherent to rotating media. Workloads demanding consistently higher bandwidth or lower latency will need a different storage technology.
