Synology NAS DDR3 ECC kit

This OWC kit supplies 8 GB of DDR3 ECC UDIMM memory in a matched pair of 4 GB modules. It is built for the Synology DS3615xs, RS3614RPxs, RS3614xs and RS3617xs NAS units. The modules run at 1600 MHz with CL11 latency at 1.5 V. Unbuffered ECC adds error correction for data integrity in always-on storage workloads.

Upgrade from non-ECC or lower capacity

The kit replaces standard unbuffered DDR3 that lacks error correction or smaller-capacity sticks that limit the NAS to 4 GB or 8 GB total. The jump is worth it when the workload demands ZFS scrubbing, virtualisation or multi-user file services that benefit from ECC protection and the full 8 GB ceiling these bays accept. Buyers who need registered DIMMs or speeds above DDR3 1600 cannot use this kit.

240-pin UDIMM slot fit

Each stick uses the 240-pin UDIMM form factor and draws 1.5 V, so it seats directly in the four DIMM slots on the target Synology mainboards without adapters. The low-profile design without heat spreaders clears standard server chassis airflow paths. Installing the pair in matched channels enables dual-channel bandwidth for the memory controller. Systems that require registered or load-reduced modules are not compatible.
