12-Bay Rackmount NAS for SMB File Management

The Synology RS2423+ is a 12-bay rackmount network-attached storage server built for small and medium businesses. It arrives fully assembled and tested with twelve 6TB Synology Plus Series drives installed, providing 72TB of raw capacity. An AMD Ryzen processor and 16GB of installed memory drive the system, which is managed through a web-based interface with DHCP client support.

72TB Capacity and Performance Headroom

The included drives deliver 72TB of storage for growing business data, file sharing, and backup workloads. The platform achieves up to 3,500 MB/s sequential read and 1,700 MB/s sequential write throughput, with over 155K random read and 79K random write IOPS. This headroom handles multi-user file access and backup streams, though extremely heavy database or virtualisation workloads may exceed the available IOPS or memory.

1GbE and 10GbE Network Interface Limits

Two 1GbE RJ-45 ports support link aggregation and failover for redundancy, while a single 10GbE RJ-45 port provides a high-speed uplink for intensive transfers. The 10GbE link caps maximum network throughput well below the internal sequential ceiling, so sustained reads over the network will hit the port limit first. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports allow direct-attached expansion, but they do not replace a second 10GbE connection for clustered workloads.
