The PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack-mount system built around two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 22 cores. It ships with 768 GB of registered ECC DDR4 memory across 24 slots and a PERC H730 controller supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis provides 24 front-accessible 2.5-inch drive bays populated with two 300 GB 10 K SAS drives, plus quad-port networking via an Intel X520/I350 daughter card. iDRAC 8 Enterprise and dual 750 W platinum power supplies complete the package.

This configuration targets midsize to large enterprises running virtual desktop infrastructure, data warehousing, e-commerce or high-performance computing tasks that benefit from high core counts and large memory capacity. Organisations needing more than two processors or more than 24 drive bays should look at larger platforms, and workloads requiring GPU acceleration or direct-attached storage types not supported by the H730 controller are not addressed by this configuration.

The installed 768 GB (24 × 32 GB) DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory fills every available slot, leaving no room for expansion without removing existing modules. The platform maximum is 1.5 TB, so any growth beyond the current capacity requires a full memory replacement rather than a simple addition.
