Dense 1U rack server for virtualised workloads

The PowerEdge R650 packs two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors running at 2.3GHz with a 3.4GHz turbo into a single rack unit. Twenty cores per socket deliver 40 threads for dense virtualisation, database serving or private-cloud clusters. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC memory is installed across four slots, leaving headroom for the platform’s 2TB maximum.

Sustained throughput with hardware RAID and 10K SAS

Ten 1.8TB 10K SAS drives connect through the PERC H755 controller with 8GB NV cache and battery backup, enabling RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 under continuous write loads. Dual 1400W platinum power supplies share the load in hot-swap mode, so a single unit failure does not throttle CPU frequency. The OCP 3.0 dual-port 10GbE SFP+ adapter keeps network queues fed during prolonged replication or backup windows.

Serviceable chassis with front-access storage

The 1U depth accommodates ten 2.5-inch drive bays at the front, allowing drive replacement without sliding the server out of the rack. Included ready rails and a front bezel simplify initial mounting and cable routing. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides dedicated out-of-band management over a separate port, so firmware updates, power cycling and console access remain available even when the host OS is unresponsive.
