Compact GPS Sub-Module

The Adafruit 790 Ultimate GPS Module is a raw MTK3339 sub-module built for makers integrating precise location data into custom IoT projects. Weighing roughly 4 grams, it delivers 66 search channels and 22 tracking channels with a 165 dBm tracking sensitivity for reliable fixes in challenging environments.

Build Integration

The board operates at 3.3V and draws only 20 mA while tracking, making it suitable for battery-powered designs. It includes a built-in patch antenna plus a connection point for an optional external active antenna, and features RTC battery compatibility alongside a PPS output on fix for time-synchronised applications.

Sustained Operation

Warm or cold starts achieve a fix in approximately 34 seconds with acquisition sensitivity at 145 dBm. The module supports update rates from 1 to 10 Hz, maintaining position accuracy within 3 metres and velocity accuracy of 0.1 metres per second during continuous logging. It has been reported functional up to 32 km altitude.

Klausimai apie šią prekę

How long can the 20 mA tracking current run before the RTC battery is the limiting factor?

The module draws 20 mA while tracking at 3.3 V and includes an RTC battery-compatible input; the RTC cell supplies only the real-time clock during power-off, so the tracking limit is set by your main power source capacity, not the backup cell.

What thermal or noise output should I expect when the module logs data continuously at 10 Hz?

The board is a 16 mm × 16 mm × 5 mm passive component with no fan or moving parts; it produces no audible noise and negligible heat during continuous 10 Hz logging.

Which host interface and voltage level must my controller provide for the module to operate?

The module communicates over a 3.3 V serial UART and requires a 3.3 V supply; your host must provide both a compatible UART port and a 3.3 V rail (or a regulator) for it to work.
