This Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for virtualisation, database and compute-intensive workloads. It ships with two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each running 14 cores at 2.6 GHz, and 512 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 16 modules of 32 GB PC4-2400. Four 300 GB 10K SAS drives are pre-configured on an H730P RAID controller, and remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays and up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for expansion.

Verify rack space, power

Confirm your rack can accommodate a 2U form factor and that you have rails compatible with the R740 chassis. The unit includes an 1100 W redundant power supply, so ensure your PDU or UPS can deliver the required load and that appropriate power cords are available. Network connectivity uses an Intel X550 adapter providing two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports; check that your switch infrastructure supports these speeds and cabling. No optical drive is fitted, so plan for USB or network-based media if needed.

Included accessories simplify deployment

The package includes the front bezel without LCD, sliding rails and power cords, reducing the need for separate accessory orders. iDRAC9 Enterprise is licensed on the system, enabling full remote console, virtual media and lifecycle management without additional licensing steps. The H730P RAID controller supports the installed SAS drives and can manage additional drives you add to the remaining bays. Sixteen DDR4 slots are fully populated, so any future memory upgrade will require replacing existing modules.
