The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each with 14 cores at 2.6GHz, and 64GB of DDR4 memory across four 16GB modules. The configuration leaves six 2.5-inch drive bays open for future storage expansion. Buyers who require GPU acceleration or single-thread frequency above 2.6GHz should evaluate other platforms.

Enterprise Chassis with Redundant Power

The 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis houses a 1100W redundant power supply and includes sliding rails and a front bezel for immediate rack integration. An Intel X550 network daughter card provides two 10Gb RJ45 ports and two 1Gb RJ45 ports, supporting high-throughput east-west traffic without consuming a PCIe slot. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators. Operators needing 25Gb or fibre connectivity must add a compatible adapter.

H730P RAID and iDRAC9 Enterprise Management

The bundled H730P controller manages the two 480GB SATA SSDs and any added drives with hardware RAID levels and cache protection. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band lifecycle control, including remote console, firmware orchestration and telemetry streaming, reducing on-site visits. No optical drive is fitted, so OS deployment relies on virtual media or network boot. Environments without a dedicated management network will not benefit from the iDRAC enterprise features.
