The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server equipped with four Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.2 GHz with eight cores each. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and a PERC H730P controller managing two 800 GB SATA SSDs. Redundant 1600 W power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management are included.

48 DIMM slots and SATA/SAS storage limits

The system provides 48 DDR4 memory slots supporting up to 6 TB of total capacity using registered ECC modules. The PERC H730P controller handles SATA and SAS drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ interfaces.

Four-socket maximum reached at purchase

All four LGA 3647 sockets are already populated with Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs so no further processor upgrades are possible. Buyers who need more than four sockets must choose a different platform. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays are partially filled by the two installed SSDs leaving room for additional SATA or SAS devices.
