The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 is a 1U rack-mount server system designed for data-centre workloads that demand dense compute in a single rack unit. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz, 4 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory, and two 146 GB 15 K SAS drives managed by a Smart HBA H240 controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5. The platform supports a second processor and up to 1 TB of memory across 16 DIMM slots for future expansion.

Thermals, noise and power

Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies share the load and allow maintenance without downtime, while the 1U chassis uses managed airflow to cool the CPU, memory and drive bays within standard rack environmental limits. The Matrox G200 graphics subsystem draws minimal power and generates negligible heat, keeping the thermal budget focused on the processor and storage subsystem. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and component utilisation, so idle noise remains low in a typical server-room environment.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous multi-threaded workloads the ten physical cores and twenty logical threads maintain 2.3 GHz base frequency while the H240 controller streams data from the 15 K SAS drives at up to 6 Gbps per port. The eight SFF drive bays and dual-processor capability let the system scale to 36 total cores and larger memory footprints without changing chassis, so sustained throughput grows with the workload rather than throttling after a short burst.
