The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 fits 24 small-form-factor drive bays and a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz into a 2U chassis. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory occupy a fraction of the 24 available DIMM slots. Two 146 GB 15 K SAS drives and a Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache provide the baseline storage subsystem. The platform targets workloads that need high drive count and redundant power in a standard rack footprint.

Sustained load behaviour with flash-backed cache

The P440 controller’s 4 GB FBWC preserves write data during unexpected power loss, allowing the RAID array to maintain performance without risking corruption. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies share the load so that a single failure does not throttle the CPU or storage controllers. The Xeon E5-2630 v3 delivers 16 threads under hyper-threading, keeping throughput steady for virtualisation hosts or database nodes that run continuously rather than in short bursts. Memory operates at speeds supported by the processor, up to 2400 MT/s.

Build quality and day-to-day connectivity

Redundant power supplies and hot-swap drive trays let administrators replace failed components without shutting down the server. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip provides basic video output for local console access. Twenty-four front-accessible 2.5-inch bays simplify drive swaps, while an optional rear cage can add two more bays if capacity needs grow. The Intel C610 chipset manages I/O for storage and networking cards installed in the available PCIe slots. No operating system is included.
