Server identity

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need reliable compute density. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 64GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Dual redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies protect uptime. The platform supports a second processor and up to 24 DIMM slots for future expansion.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous demand the B140i software RAID controller manages the two installed 500GB 7.2K SATA drives in RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 without a dedicated cache. Eight small-form-factor bays allow additional SATA or SAS storage to be added later. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip handles basic console output only. Redundant cooling and power keep the system stable during extended processing windows.

Deciding specification

The B140i controller supports SATA drives only; SAS and NVME devices cannot be used with this RAID implementation. Buyers who need hardware RAID acceleration or NVME boot volumes must select a different controller option. The single-socket configuration leaves half the memory slots and the second processor socket unpopulated, limiting maximum memory to the installed 64GB unless a second CPU is added.
