This 2U rack server ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. It includes two 600 GB 15 K 6 Gbps 2.5-inch SAS drives and an HP Smart HBA H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies are fitted and no operating system is pre-installed.

Storage interface limits

The Smart HBA H240ar provides 12 Gbps SAS and 6 Gbps SATA connectivity across eight small-form-factor drive bays. The installed drives operate at 6 Gbps SAS, so the backplane bandwidth is not fully utilised by the current configuration. NVMe devices can only be added to bay 2, and a universal media bay is restricted to bay 3. Maximum raw capacity depends on the drive models chosen for the remaining six bays.

Build quality and daily implications

The chassis supports up to two processors with twelve DIMM slots each, giving 24 slots in total, although the present CPU caps memory at 32 GB. Redundant power supplies and hot-swap drive trays allow drive or power-module replacement without downtime. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics subsystem is intended for management console output only. Buyers who need more than one processor, larger memory footprints or NVMe boot drives will have to add components not included here.
