The ASUS B650E MAX GAMING WIFI is an ATX motherboard built around the AMD B650 chipset and the AM5 socket. It supports Ryzen 7000 8000 and 9000 series processors and provides four DDR5 slots with a maximum capacity of 192GB. PCIe 5.0 slot and M.2 limits depend on CPU

With Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors the primary PCIe x16 slot runs at 5.0 x16 and the top M.2 slot supports 5.0 x4. Ryzen 8000 series CPUs limit the same slot to 4.0 x8 or x4 and the top M.2 to 4.0 x4. Two additional PCIe 3.0 x1 slots share bandwidth with two SATA 6Gbps ports which become disabled when those slots are populated.

Upgrade from earlier AM5 boards for PCIe 5.0

Moving from a basic B650 design adds a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot rear USB 10Gbps Type-A and Type-C ports and 2.5Gb Ethernet. The jump is worthwhile when you need faster GPU and storage bandwidth or higher peripheral throughput for AI workloads and high-speed external drives.
