The PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server that fits into PowerEdge MX and M1000e chassis. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6230 processors, each running at 2.10 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo and twenty cores. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four modules and uses the LGA 3647 socket.

Storage controller and networking daughter card

A PERC H330 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. Two 2.5-inch drive caddies are included for local storage. Networking is handled by a Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb blade network daughter card installed in the dedicated slot.

Management scope and expansion ceiling

iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full remote management including virtual console and lifecycle automation. The blade supports a maximum of two processors and 1.5 TB of DDR4 memory across sixteen slots. GPU capability is limited to the integrated Matrox G200 with 8 MB video memory, and no operating system is pre-installed.
