The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server designed for businesses that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 192 GB of DDR4 memory across 12 DIMM slots. The chassis supports up to eight 3.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives managed by a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote-management module complete the baseline configuration.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous workloads the single-socket layout delivers 16 logical threads via Hyper-Threading, while the 12 Gbps RAID controller maintains throughput across RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 arrays. Memory bandwidth scales with the installed DDR4 modules up to 2400 MT/s, limited by the processor’s integrated memory controller. Five PCIe slots — three at generation 3.0 and two at 2.0 — allow the addition of network or accelerator cards without reducing storage bandwidth. The platform maxes at 384 GB RAM when a second processor is added.

Thermals, noise and power

Redundant 750 W power supplies share the load, improving efficiency and allowing one unit to fail without downtime. The 2U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow tuned for rack density; acoustic output is typical for data-centre equipment and not suited to office desks. Power draw varies with drive count and PCIe cards but remains within the dual-supply budget. iDRAC8 provides real-time thermal monitoring and fan-speed control through a dedicated management network port.
