The Dell PowerEdge R640 packs two Xeon Gold 6154 processors, each with 14 cores running at 3.0GHz, for a total of 36 cores. The 128GB of DDR4 memory supports multiple virtual machines and database instances in a 1U rackmount form factor. It targets IT teams consolidating file storage, backup and application hosting onto a single platform.

Eight drive bays and a complete rack kit

Eight 2.5-inch bays accept the SSD or HDD mix you choose, while the included H730P controller handles RAID duties. Front-panel LEDs show power, Ethernet and USB status at a glance. Rails and a bezel ship with the unit so it can be mounted and secured in a standard rack without extra parts.

CPU and memory ceilings are fixed

The LGA3647 sockets are already populated with the maximum of two processors, so no further CPU upgrades are possible. Memory can grow to 3TB, but only with DDR4 modules that match the installed specification. Integrated graphics handle basic console output; no discrete GPU can be added inside the 1U chassis.
