This new Dell PowerEdge R730 ships with two 12-core Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors running at 2.5 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo. It targets midsize and large enterprises running virtual desktop infrastructure, databases, data warehouses or high-performance computing workloads that need dense compute in a 2U form factor.

Tool-less rail install with redundant hot-swap power

The included Ready Rails let you mount the chassis in a standard rack without tools. Dual 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies are hot-swappable for zero-downtime maintenance. The PERC H730 RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Eight 2.5-inch drive trays accept SAS or SATA drives; no drives are installed.

768 GB DDR4 registered ECC across 24 slots

Memory is populated as 24 × 32 GB DDR4-2133 registered ECC modules, filling every slot and reaching half the 1.5 TB maximum. Buyers who need more capacity must replace modules rather than add them. The LGA 2011-3 socket and Intel C610 chipset limit upgrades to the same processor generation.
