This new Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server populated with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors running at 2.10 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots. The PERC H730 1 GB controller manages twelve 3.5-inch 6 TB 7.2K SATA drives. Quad-port networking provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links, while iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote management. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and sliding rails are included.

Suits storage-heavy virtualisation

The twelve-bay chassis and 1.5 TB maximum memory make this platform a fit for data-warehouse nodes, VDI hosts or database clusters that prioritise raw capacity and core count. Organisations standardising on LGA 2011-3 infrastructure can deploy it immediately. Buyers who need more than twelve drive bays, more than two sockets, or memory beyond 1.5 TB should evaluate other platforms. Workloads requiring GPU acceleration or specialised interconnects are not addressed by this configuration.

PERC H730 RAID flexibility

The single specification that decides fit is the PERC H730 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. This breadth lets administrators match redundancy and performance to each virtual disk without adding a separate HBA.
