Dual Gold 6132 14-core server for dense workloads

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 14 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory across four 16 GB modules and four 480 GB SATA SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. This configuration suits virtualisation hosts, database nodes or compute clusters that need high core counts in a compact chassis.

PCIe Gen 3 and 2.5-inch bay limits

The system provides up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for add-in cards, but bandwidth is capped at Gen 3 speeds. Storage expansion is restricted to the eight 2.5-inch drive bays, and the installed H730P controller supports SATA SSDs only. Network connectivity uses the Intel X550 NDC with two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports, so faster 25 Gb or fibre uplinks would require additional adapters.

Rail installation and cabling clearance

The server includes sliding rails for standard 19-inch racks, allowing one-person mounting in most cabinets. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies require two separate PDU circuits for full redundancy. The front bezel has no LCD, so drive status is monitored through iDRAC9 Enterprise or the H730P BIOS utility. Cable routing at the rear can be tight when all eight PCIe slots are populated.
