The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across the 24 DIMM slots available when both processor sockets are populated. Two 1 TB 7.2 K SAS drives and an H240ar controller provide immediate storage for virtualisation hosts, database nodes or backup targets.

Sustained-load behaviour

Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies and redundant cooling keep the chassis stable during continuous multi-threaded workloads. The H240ar supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 so arrays survive drive loss without performance collapse. With 12 physical cores and hyper-threading the CPU handles steady virtual-machine density or batch processing without thermal throttling.

Build and daily implications

Eight 2.5-inch SFF bays sit at the front; the current pair of SAS drives occupies two, leaving six bays for future SAS or SATA expansion. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics adapter provides basic console output only. No operating system is included, so the administrator installs the preferred hypervisor or OS before racking the unit.
