Dual-socket Xeon server for data-centre workloads

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack system fitted with two eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors running at 2.4 GHz. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory are installed across 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for large memory expansion. Twelve 3.5-inch LFF drive bays connect to a Smart HBA H240ar controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.

Sustained multi-threaded performance with 32 threads

Both CPUs expose eight physical cores and sixteen threads each, giving 32 logical threads for parallel tasks such as virtualisation, database serving or batch processing. The Intel C610 chipset links the sockets and memory controllers without a consumer-oriented feature set. DDR4 modules run up to 2400 MT/s, limited by the processor memory controller. The H240ar controller delivers 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA throughput to the drive backplane, keeping storage bandwidth consistent during long write sequences.

Redundant cooling and power in a 2U chassis

The 2U form factor houses redundant fans that maintain airflow across both processors and the memory array under load. Dual 500 W power supplies share the load and allow one unit to fail without shutdown. A Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip with 16 MB video memory handles basic console output only. No optical drive is fitted, reducing internal obstructions and power draw. The server ships without an operating system.
