Purpose-built 2U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rackmount system designed for data-centre workloads that need dense compute in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor running at 2.3GHz and 192GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. The B140i software RAID controller handles SATA drives only, making this unit suited to environments that rely on internal SATA storage rather than hardware RAID or NVMe. Redundant hot-swap 500W power supplies support continuous operation.

Memory ceiling and storage limits

Installed memory reaches the processor-supported maximum of 192GB, so no further DIMMs can be added without a second CPU; the board accepts up to 3TB total when both sockets are populated. Eight 2.5-inch SFF bays provide room for SATA SSDs or HDDs, while the B140i controller restricts RAID to levels 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA media only. SAS and NVMe drives are not supported by the onboard controller, and the Matrox G200eH2 graphics core with 16MB video memory is intended solely for management console output.

Included hardware additions

Two drive trays with mounting screws are supplied, allowing immediate installation of a pair of SATA drives without extra parts. The redundant power supplies are already fitted, so the server can tolerate a single supply failure without downtime. No operating system, drives, additional CPU or rail kit are included; buyers needing hardware RAID, SAS connectivity or NVMe support must source a compatible add-in controller separately.
