Three-Port FireWire Card
The Syba SY-PEX30016 adds two 1394b ports and one 1394a port to a desktop through a PCIe x1 slot. It uses a TI XIO2213B chipset and supports data rates of 100, 200, 400 and 800 Mbps. The card targets users who still rely on legacy DV camcorders, audio interfaces or external drives that require a FireWire connection.
PCIe x1 Slot and Legacy OS Support
Installation requires a single PCIe 1.1 or 2.0 x1 lane, leaving larger slots free for graphics or storage controllers. No driver installation is needed for the listed Windows versions from 2000 through 7 and Server 2008 R2, both 32 and 64 bit. Hot-swap and plug-and-play operation lets users connect or disconnect devices without a reboot.
800 Mbps Peak Throughput
The 1394b ports deliver up to 800 Mbps, enough for uncompressed DV capture or multi-track audio streams. The single 1394a port tops out at 400 Mbps for older peripherals. Bandwidth is shared across the three ports, so simultaneous high-speed transfers on all ports will reduce individual device performance.
