Dual-Channel CAN FD HAT for Raspberry Pi

This expansion HAT adds two isolated CAN channels to any Raspberry Pi board with a 40PIN GPIO header and also works with Jetson Nano. It supports both CAN2.0 and CAN FD protocols for higher data throughput in automotive or industrial networks. The onboard MCP2518FD controller and MCP2562FD transceiver handle protocol processing and bus driving.

Build Integration and Voltage Flexibility

The HAT plugs directly onto the 40PIN GPIO header, requiring no extra cables or adapters for the host board. Jumpers let you select 3.3V or 5V operating voltage and enable or disable the 120 termination resistor for each channel. Electrical isolation up to 5KV separates the CAN bus from the host, reducing ground-loop issues in noisy environments.

Protection and Power Characteristics

Onboard protection includes a 500W lightning-surge TVS diode, ESD guarding and short-circuit safeguards on each CAN line. The isolation barrier and SM24CANB TVS devices suppress transient peaks without active cooling. Normal operation draws minimal current from the Pi supply, leaving headroom for other HATs or peripherals on the same 40PIN header.
