The SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface keeps transfers fast enough for everyday backups and file moves. Windows 10 and 8.1 users can start immediately thanks to the factory NTFS format.

5TB capacity handles large creative libraries

Five terabytes hold thousands of high-resolution photos, hours of 4K footage or extensive music collections without constant curation. The drive runs out of space only when projects grow beyond that ceiling, such as multi-camera video productions or full system images for several machines. USB 2.0 fallback works on older ports but drops transfer speed to a fraction of the Gen 1 rate. Reformatting is required before use on macOS or Linux, which erases existing data.

WD Discovery software adds backup scheduling

The bundled WD Discovery suite installs WD Backup for automatic file protection, password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption and drive management tools.
