Half-width blade compute node

The Dell PowerEdge MX740C is a half-width blade server designed for dense compute in a shared chassis. It ships with two Intel Silver 4210 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 10 cores and 14 MB cache. A full complement of 512 GB DDR4 memory is installed across 16 modules at 2933 MT/s. Two 2.4 TB 10K SAS drives and an H730P MX RAID controller provide local storage.

Virtualisation and database workloads

This configuration suits environments that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a compact form factor, such as virtualisation clusters or in-memory databases. The dual 10/25 Gb SFP28 mezzanine card supports fast network connectivity. Buyers who need direct-attached GPU acceleration or more than six 2.5-inch drive bays should look at alternative platforms. The fabric switch bays for Fabrics A, B and C are not included.

Six 2.5-inch drive bay limit

The chassis provides a maximum of six 2.5-inch drive bays, of which two are populated with the supplied 2.4 TB 10K SAS drives. This ceiling determines how much additional local storage can be added without external arrays. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Express. No optical drive is fitted.
