Installation and common issues
Shut down the PC, unplug the mains, open the case and seat the card in any x1, x4, x8 or x16 socket before securing the bracket screw. Windows 10, 11 and Mac OS 10.8.2 or later load the driver automatically; Windows 7, 8, Vista, XP and Server 2008 require the supplied CD or a downloaded driver. The card draws all power from the slot, so no auxiliary connector is needed.
Practical limits of the interface
The PCIe 2.0 x1 link caps total throughput at 5.0 Gbps shared across the four ports, so simultaneous transfers from multiple high-speed drives will not reach the per-port maximum. Each port can supply up to 5 V at 3 A, yet the specification notes that Battery Charging 1.2 is not supported, so phones or tablets may charge more slowly than with a dedicated charger.
