The Western Digital Ultrastar DC HA340 is a 12TB 3.5 inch internal hard drive built for servers and storage systems. It uses a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface and conventional magnetic recording technology. The drive spins at 7200 RPM and presents a 512e format to the host. It is supplied new in retail or OEM packaging.
Sustained 7200 RPM workloads on SATA
Under continuous operation the 7200 RPM spindle delivers consistent throughput for sequential workloads such as bulk data ingest, backup targets and video surveillance recording. Conventional magnetic recording avoids the latency spikes associated with shingled writing during long write passes. The SATA 6.0Gb/s link sustains the data rate without the protocol overhead of faster interfaces.
