Turn an internal SATA SSD into portable storage

The Orico M.2 SATA enclosure accepts B-key or B+M-key drives in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. It connects over USB 3.2 Gen2 and includes a dual-headed cable with USB-C and USB-A plugs. Theoretical read and write speeds reach 550 MB/s. It is not compatible with NVMe or PCIe SSDs.

Tool-free assembly with a screw-retained lid

Slide the SSD into the M.2 slot, secure it with the captive screw and snap the aluminum shell shut. The included 2-in-1 cable removes the need for separate adapters. A common mistake is inserting an NVMe drive, which fits physically but will not be recognised because the bridge only speaks SATA.

Aluminum body acts as a heatsink under sustained

The CNC-cut alloy chassis wraps the drive and spreads heat across its striped surface. During long sequential transfers the enclosure stays cool enough to maintain the SATA link at its 6 Gbps ceiling without throttling. Performance is limited by the SATA protocol rather than thermal constraints.
