The Ubiquiti Networks Flex Mini is a desktop Layer 2 switch with five Gigabit RJ45 ports and a total non-blocking throughput of 5 Gbps. It suits small offices, home labs or retail counters that need silent, fanless operation and simple VLAN or port-isolation features. Power comes either from the included 5 V USB-C adapter or through the single PoE input port when an upstream 802.3 af/at source is available. UniFi Network Controller 5.12 or later handles configuration and monitoring.

Sustained load behaviour

Switching capacity reaches 10 Gbps with a forwarding rate of 7.44 Mpps, so the fabric does not saturate when all five ports run at line rate. The fanless chassis operates from -5 to 45 °C (23 to 113 °F) at 10 to 90 % non-condensing humidity, keeping throughput steady without acoustic noise. Storm control, multicast and broadcast rate limiting, and egress rate limits prevent traffic storms from degrading other ports during prolonged bursts. Jumbo-frame support lets large frames pass without fragmentation overhead.

Upgrade context

It replaces an unmanaged desktop switch when you need per-port VLANs, port mirroring for diagnostics, or flow-control tuning for latency-sensitive gear. The jump is worth it if you want centralised UniFi management instead of per-device web interfaces, or if PoE-in powering removes the need for a nearby mains socket. Buyers who need Layer 3 routing, SFP uplinks, or more than five copper ports should look elsewhere.
