Balanced 1U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 is a 1U rack server built for general-purpose workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2623 v3 quad-core processor at 3 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The H240 Smart HBA provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, and 5 support. Two 146 GB 15 K SAS drives are pre-installed in the eight-bay SFF chassis.

Upgrade path from single-socket density

The platform supports a second Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processor to reach up to 36 total cores and 1 TB of DDR4 across 16 DIMM slots. Adding the second CPU unlocks the remaining eight memory channels and doubles PCIe lane availability. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept additional SAS or SATA drives, and an optional universal media bay can replace two bays for optical or backup media. This jump is worth it when thread count, memory capacity, or internal storage must grow beyond the single-socket baseline.

Sustained load with redundant power

Dual hot-swap 550 W power supplies deliver N+N redundancy, keeping the server online during a module failure or maintenance swap. The 1 U airflow design moves air front-to-back across both CPU sockets, the H240 controller, and the 15 K drives, maintaining thermal margins during continuous database or virtualization workloads. The Matrox G200 graphics subsystem handles remote management consoles without adding thermal load. No operating system is included, so the integrator chooses the hypervisor or OS that matches the workload profile.
