The Intel Xeon Max 9480 delivers 56 cores and 112 threads at a 1.9 GHz base frequency with a 3.5 GHz max turbo. It fits the LGA 4677 socket and supports up to 4 TB of DDR5 memory across eight channels. The 10 nm Sapphire Rapids architecture includes Intel AMX, AVX-512 and AVX2 instruction sets for heavy parallel workloads.
Moving to this single-socket 56-core part replaces older multi-socket deployments when thread density and memory bandwidth per socket are the bottleneck. The jump is worth it when software licensing scales per socket and the 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes can consolidate accelerator cards. It is not for buyers who need more than two-socket scaling or who require a lower thermal envelope.
Under continuous multi-threaded work the processor runs at its 350 W thermal design power, so cooling must dissipate that heat without throttling. The 112.5 MB L3 cache helps keep cores fed during long AVX-512 or AMX runs, while DDR5 4800 MT/s single-DPC and 4400 MT/s dual-DPC memory rates sustain bandwidth. No cooling device is included.
