The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 14 cores and 19.25 MB cache. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 memory across 16 DIMMs at 2666 MT/s and six 120 GB SATA SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute clusters that need high core density in a compact chassis. 1100 W Redundant Power with iDRAC9

Two 1100 W redundant power supplies feed the system, allowing continued operation if one unit fails. The integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise controller provides out-of-band remote management, firmware updates and console access over a dedicated network interface. Thermals are handled by the standard 2U airflow design; acoustic output will reflect a dense dual-socket server under load. No optical drive is fitted, freeing internal space for storage and expansion cards.

8 PCIe Gen 3 Slots and 10 Gb Ethernet

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots support additional network adapters, storage controllers or accelerators. The onboard Intel X550 NDC delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible network segmentation. Six of the eight 2.5-inch bays are populated with the included SSDs, leaving two bays open for growth. Rails, bezel and power cords are included for immediate rack mounting.
