Dual Silver 4210 compute density

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 fits two Intel Silver 4210 processors, each with 10 cores, into a 2U rack chassis. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory and four 2 TB 7.2K NL SAS drives provide a balanced starting point for virtualisation hosts or database nodes. The H740P controller manages the array with hardware RAID. iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band control.

Sustained multi-threaded throughput

Twenty cores share a large 19.25 MB cache per socket, keeping pipeline stalls low during long compile jobs or batch processing. The 2.6 GHz base frequency holds steady under load because the 2U airflow path moves more air than a 1U alternative. Redundant 1100 W supplies prevent a single PSU failure from throttling the CPUs. PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for accelerator cards that extend heavy workloads.

Rack-ready connectivity and service

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays sit behind a tool-less bezel, so drive swaps happen without removing the server from the rails. The NDC integrates two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports, reducing cable count at the top of the rack. Rails and power cords ship in the box, cutting installation time. No optical drive means one less moving part to fail.
