The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization, dense software-defined storage, traditional applications, private cloud and high-performance computing. It ships new with a rail kit and targets small-business or enterprise environments that need scalable compute resources. PERC H730 RAID and 1GbE networking

Storage is managed by a PERC H730 12Gb/s RAID controller with 2 GB non-volatile cache, which sets the practical ceiling for drive throughput and array configuration. Network connectivity relies on a Broadcom BCM5720 quad-port 1GbE BASE-T rNDC, limiting external traffic to gigabit speeds per port.
