The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server fitted with twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays. Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors provide forty-eight cores at 2.10 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo, while 256 GB of DDR4-2666 registered ECC memory fills eight of twenty-four slots. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages the twenty-four 400 GB SATA SSDs already installed.

Suited for scale-out storage, not GPU farms

This configuration targets software-defined storage clusters, virtual desktop infrastructure and service-provider workloads that benefit from high drive density in a compact chassis. It is not for buyers who need GPU acceleration, additional processor sockets beyond the two installed, or memory expansion past the 3 TB platform limit.
