The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a standard 1U rack slot and ships with dual Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors running at 2.4 GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory are installed across the 16 DIMM slots. Two 1 TB SAS drives connect through the Smart HBA H240 controller with RAID 0, 1 or 5 support. Redundant hot-swap power supplies are included.

Suited for dense compute, not GPU work

This server targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes or cloud workers that need many cores in minimal height. The Matrox G200 graphics provide only basic console output, so workloads requiring GPU acceleration should look elsewhere. The eight small-form-factor bays limit internal storage to 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, ruling out 3.5-inch arrays.

Build around the H240 and 550 W supplies

The Smart HBA H240 handles 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA links, freeing the system board for additional PCIe cards. Redundant 550 W hot-swap units supply power without occupying expansion slots. Sixteen DIMM slots allow memory growth up to the platform maximum when registered DDR4 modules are added. No operating system is included, so the installer chooses the hypervisor or OS.
