The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server with twelve large-form-factor drive bays. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The Smart HBA H240ar controller provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 support. Dual 500 W redundant power supplies are included.

Upgrade from smaller 8-bay or non-redundant systems

Moving to this chassis adds four extra 3.5-inch bays and a second hot-swap power supply without increasing rack height beyond 2U. The jump is worth it when you need more local spindle capacity and power redundancy but do not yet require a second CPU or the maximum 3 TB memory ceiling. The installed 32 GB uses only a fraction of the 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for later expansion.

Fits standard 2U racks with SAS/SATA backplanes

The server occupies 2U and relies on the integrated H240ar controller for drive attachment; no separate RAID card is required. Twelve front LFF trays with screws are supplied, while an optional rear cage can add three more LFF or two SFF bays at the cost of the second riser slot. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics with 16 MB video memory handles basic console output, freeing PCIe slots for additional I/O cards.
