The Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 is a fully rugged 14.0-inch laptop with a 1920 x 1080 multi-touch display. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-5300U processor at 2.3GHz with 8GB of memory and a 128GB SSD. Integrated 4G LTE, GPS, a smartcard reader and a fingerprint reader support field workflows. A digitizer pen and power adapter are included.

Upgrade from non-rugged or lower-spec portables

This unit replaces standard business laptops that lack MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 certification for drops, vibration, dust and water jets. The jump is worth it when work takes you outdoors, into vehicles or onto sites where consumer chassis fail. It also steps up from earlier Toughbooks that max out at 1366 x 768 resolution or omit LTE and FirstNet connectivity.

Field-ready build with expansion headroom

The chassis provides four USB ports, Gigabit LAN, 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth 4.1 for peripherals and networks. Memory can be expanded to 16GB for heavier multitasking. The integrated GPU handles the 1080p panel and typical business apps without a discrete card. Buyers who need more internal storage or a second cellular modem should look elsewhere.
