This system adds a second processor to reach 24 physical cores and 48 threads with hyper-threading, a significant jump for virtualisation hosts or database workloads that need more concurrent threads. The 24 DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to the platform maximum of 3TB, so the jump is worth it when your current chassis limits you to fewer slots or a lower ceiling. The eight SFF drive bays also provide room to grow beyond the two installed drives.

The installed E5-2670 v3 CPUs set the memory bus speed, so any added DDR4 modules will run at the processor-rated frequency up to 2400MT/s.
