The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors, each providing twelve cores at 2.3GHz. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 500GB 7.2K SATA drives managed by a B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. Redundant hot-swap 500W power supplies are included.
This system adds a second processor to reach 24 physical cores and 48 threads with hyper-threading, a significant jump for virtualisation hosts or database workloads that need more concurrent threads. The 24 DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to the platform maximum of 3TB, so the jump is worth it when your current chassis limits you to fewer slots or a lower ceiling. The eight SFF drive bays also provide room to grow beyond the two installed drives.
The installed E5-2670 v3 CPUs set the memory bus speed, so any added DDR4 modules will run at the processor-rated frequency up to 2400MT/s. The B140i controller handles SATA only; SAS or NVMe drives require a different controller card. Verify that your rack provides 2U space and that the 2.5-inch drive carriers match your spare drives. No operating system is included.
