Purpose-built rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount system designed for business workloads such as virtualization, databases, file storage and application hosting. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6126 processors, each offering 14 cores at 2.60GHz, and 64GB of DDR4 memory. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays come populated with two 300GB SAS hard drives and an HBA330 controller. iDRAC Enterprise and rack rails are included for immediate deployment.

Storage and expansion limits

The eight 2.5-inch bays accept SAS drives and the included HBA330 controller manages the installed 300GB units. Memory capacity can scale to 3TB of DDR4 across the available slots. Processor sockets are limited to the two LGA3647 sockets already occupied by the Gold 6126 CPUs. Graphics output relies on the integrated GPU; no discrete accelerator slots are described in the configuration.

Pre-order checklist

Verify that your rack provides a standard 1U space and compatible rail mounting points for the included rails. Confirm that your power infrastructure delivers the connectors and redundancy the dual-socket platform expects. Ensure your management network can reach the iDRAC Enterprise interface for remote administration. Plan any additional DDR4 modules or SAS drives around the remaining empty slots and drive bays.
