This 1U rackmount server is built for business workloads such as virtualization, databases and application hosting. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6132 processors and 256GB of DDR4 memory to support multiple virtual machines and data-heavy applications. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays come populated with 1.2TB 10K SAS hard drives for operating systems, backups and business data. An H730P storage controller simplifies array setup and daily management.

Practical limits of SAS 12Gbps and LGA3647

The eight 1.2TB drives connect through a 12Gbps SAS interface that caps sustained throughput at the controller and backplane level. Only two LGA3647 sockets are present and both are already occupied, so no further CPU upgrades are possible. The integrated GPU provides basic display output only and is not suited for compute acceleration. Memory slots support DDR4 modules up to a 3TB system maximum, but the installed 256GB uses a portion of that capacity.

28 physical cores decide virtualization density

Fourteen cores per processor give a total of 28 cores at 2.6GHz, which is the primary factor in how many concurrent virtual machines or database threads the server can handle. Buyers who need higher core counts or newer instruction sets must choose a different platform because the socket and chipset are fixed. The 60kg chassis weight also means rack rails and floor loading must be planned before installation.
