The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server populated with one Xeon Silver 4210 processor running at 2.2 GHz and 256 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across sixteen 16 GB modules. It targets virtualization hosts, database clusters and high-density compute farms that need maximum core count in minimum rack space.

Eight-bay flexibility

The 8SFF chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SAS drives backed by a PERC H740P RAID controller, leaving drive selection entirely to the builder. Two 750 W power supplies and a 10 GbE dual-port 562T adapter are already installed, while the second CPU socket remains open for future expansion to twenty cores.

Efficient thermal envelope

Front-to-rear airflow across the 36 x 24 x 10 inch chassis keeps the single 10-core processor and memory population within spec under typical loads. Redundant 750 W units share the load, reducing per-supply stress and fan speed, while iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote thermal monitoring without a local console.
