Server identity

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors, each with ten cores at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots, a Perc H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache, and two 300 GB 15K SAS drives in hot-plug bays. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and a DVD-ROM complete the base configuration.

Fit and limits

This system suits workloads that need dense compute in a 2U form factor with hardware RAID across SAS or SATA drives. It does not suit buyers who need more than eight 2.5-inch drive bays, more than 32 GB of memory pre-installed, or an operating system included. The four onboard 1 GbE ports may limit environments that require 10 GbE connectivity without adding a daughter card.
